Regarding Service Learning:
We urge you not to attend service learning or job shadows/informational interviews during this school closure, but please contact your host to let them know.
If they do not answer, leave a message with your name and phone number and that you are canceling because of the coronavirus crisis, but do plan to return or reschedule as soon as school is back in session. If you signed up for shifts for volunteering on your organization’s website, please make sure to log into their website and take your name off of the schedule as soon as possible.
Hopefully, we will be able to come back to school in April or May and we can just resume service learning and job shadowing at that time. Note that if we end up not having school for the rest of the year, we may decide to waive the entire Service Learning Course, as well as the job shadowing and informational interview requirements for Career Connections. For those students who have already started Service Learning, please finish any remaining journals or essays that are due and submit to me via email or take a picture of your work and text it to me. If you have pictures of you at your service site, text or email those as well, along with the caption you want and I can create an online poster for you.
Regarding Career Connections:
Please note that Debi Schmidt, the School-to-Work/Service Learning Coordinator, does plan to work over the next several weeks from home. That being said, I am working to update the Career Connections and Service Learning Sections found on SharePoint on the Lancaster County Academy Team Site, which can be accessed through Microsoft Office 365. On that site you will find a copy of the Career Connections booklet, as well as assignments, and a blank copy of a syllabus to see what assignments to do. I also have access to everyone’s actual syllabus for both of my courses and will be sending them to everyone via email this week.
I will be working Mondays through Thursdays each week from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Please contact me during those times if you have a question or concern. You can call or text me at 717-368-1865. If you have difficulty accessing Microsoft Office 365, but can send me a current email address, I should also be able to just email you assignments. You can email me back your finished work at dschmidt@lca.k12.pa.us or take a picture of both sides of a worksheet and text it to me at 717-368-1865. If you have a scanner at home, you could also scan and email me assignments. I should have access to everyone’s syllabus over the break, so I can figure out what assignments everyone still needs.
Regarding Upcoming Events:
I know several of you signed up for the upcoming Health Careers Exploration Day and Public Service Careers Exploration Day. These events are now canceled. I know we also have Compass Mark scheduled to come for several more sessions and just recently started COBYS Girls Circle. We will not have those speakers if school is not in session, but plan to continue with them when we all come back.
I hope everyone stays safe and well! Remember to keep calm and wash your hands frequently with hot soapy water or use a hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol. Cough or sneeze into your elbow and stay at least 3-6 feet away from others. Avoid touching your face. If you are feeling sick, isolate yourself and call a doctor to get their advice.
